Sandy, I wish your husband the best of luck. Doctors are now
recommending that patients start out on a higher doasge, but once it
gets under control, a lower dosage may be all he needs. I started out
on 400mg, then jumped to 600mg, then to 800mg. I could not tolerate
the 600 or 800mg so I am now taking 400mg daily and in remission at
the moment. Splitting his dose up instead of taking all at once may
help. I take mine at night about 1 to 2 hours before I lay down. I eat
a bowl of cereal, drink a big glass of water and go to bed. Otherwise,
if I take it during the day, even with food, I am nauseated all day.
Hope this helps. Love, Peace, Hope & Prayers, Pat

400mg for four months.I want him to get the best care possible, but I
don't want the Onc to rush it if he will do good on this dosage.I know
that once they up it to 600mg he can never go back to 400.His only
side effect right now is gas and his stomach rumbles like crazy. But he
is grateful that that's all he has.He goes back for another fish test
in Feb. The Onc said they only do pcr testing if the fish test comes
back neg. Thanks for your reply and I will ask about splitting the dose
age up if it comes to that.Hope you are doing well.Sandy

today. When he was dx in August of 05 his cancer cells were 97%
positive. Now they are 50% positive.I thought that sounded good for
only being on gleevec for 4 months.Well the onc was not that happy
with the results. He thought it should be more around 20% by now.He
said he would leave him on the 400mg of gleevec for two more
months. If it isn't down to 20% than he wants to increase gleevec to
600mg.I said I hated to see him increase the gleevec because of all
the side effects. He told us that sense Randy had no side effects with
400mg that he should do as well on 600mg.So doe's all of this sound
right to all of you? Thanks for any response.Have a great New Years
everyone.Sandy
