Hi Amit, Blast crisis is defined by 30% or more blast counts in the blood. Blast cells are immature white cells. You can look at your Dad's blood count and see if there are increased number of blast cells or basophil cells. A bone marrow biopsy may also reveal whether the disease phase has changed. I do hope things settle down and your Dad gets better. AIIMS is one of the good hospitals in northern India. I hope his counts rebound with the Gleevec break and his HGB remains normal and stable and he is able to resume Gleevec. I can understand your anxiety, you must be strong for your Dad. Dr. Suresh Advani and Dr. Tapan Saikia are very good Indian oncologists that you may think of consulting if his blood counts continue to fall, they are both based in Mumbai.
