We received Jim's FISH results and don't understand what they mean. When I called and talked to the nurse practitioner all she said was that it showed positive and did not give me anymore information. So we don't know how serious this is. Could someone help us. This is what the report says.
The FISH result was positive for fusion of the BCR/ABL regions of Chromosomes 9 and 22. Fusion signals were observed in 8% of interphases cells examined with the VYSIS, Inc. probes ABL and BCR. BCR/ABL fusion is also seen in about 20% of adult patients with ALL and 1% of AML patients. The BCR/ABL fusion is regarded as an unfavorable prognostic marker in these disorders. Thank you.
