Hello all,
I had a bad jaw pain a few week ago and had never experienced that before.
It went away quickly and I've not had it again.
I had read years ago that jaw pain could be a sign of a heart attack.
Keep on fighting all you brave warriors.
Blessings,
Jeanie<3

Jeeze Angelyn,

I have had muscle cramps but nothing as bad as it seems you had. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw you also have Lupus, because my sister has that and that sometimes makes CML look like the Flu. I am glad though you have found something that has helped you. I cannot imagine having a cramp in my tongue. My cramps do not happen as often as they use to but I still get them once in a while, maybe once a day. Usually in my legs, or hands. When it hits my hands that can be embarrassing because it really causes them to draw in, so I just sort of stick the hand that is cramping behind my back and wait for it to pass. My platelet count has been going up and down so unfortunately I doubt I can do the Quinine thing, but it is great of you to share what has helped you because I am sure someone else can use the information to help their cramps. What amazes me is how Gleevec seems to effect people so differently. Some of us have side effects, and some of us don't, but I have found most of us do to some extent or the other. I was wondering how getting Gleevec works in Canada? I mean here in the States I was fortunate enough to have had good benefits with my former job and have been allowed by Bank of America to remain on their insurance as a retiree, because if it was not for that I would not be able to afford to get Gleevec because without insurance it is a little over $3,000 a month.(Unless it has recently went down in cost) Without my insurance I would just have to tell them to put me up to a wall and shoot me, because there is no way I could even afford half of the cost to take it.
I know Canada has universal health care for every citizen, and was just wondering if it cost you anything? I have a $25 co-pay and that is it, because of my insurance, I just have to call and get it refilled from Caremark, because for some reason they would rather overnight it to me then allow me to get it from my local drug store.

Thanks for the Info,

I have been on 300mg of Gleevec since Jan. 2001
In this time I have endured every sort of muscle cramping, the worse being a cramped tongue and throat after a yawn! Horrible. Any sustained effort brought on a cramps, like pulling my bottom lip tight to apply lipstick! I certainly didn't like ones that appeared in my foot as I drove on the freeway!  Sleeping and waking I had muscle cramping.  Once BOTH arms froze in the swimming pool....scary.  They felt hard as wood.
In April 2003 I started taking Quinine capsules. I find that 3 per week are now adequate to maintain a cramp-free life. They are 300mg. I VERY RARELY get a muscle cramp now in any part of my body.
I had tried a low dose of potassium with no result.
Quinine can contribute to thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) so keep that monitored.
