Dear Mike, There is an article on low phosphorus and bone loss on Gleevec by MSKCC doctors, published this year. Two years ago, two CML patients made me aware that they were having low phosphorus on Gleevec and I communicated this to Roy's doctor and he is having his phosphorus levels checked every 3 months. He had a check-up today as well and his levels are normal. This has also been addressed by Dr. Druker in one of his teleconferences, most CML patients with low phosphorus take supplements like Neutraphos and are fine. But studies were done by MSKCC doctors and there is low Vitamin D as well as high parathyroid function in patients with low phosphorus and evidence of possible bone loss. The article is a very comprehensive article.
If you want Dr. Chu to take a look at this article, I can send it to you. Sometimes, doctors in other disciplines may not be aware of all the findings but they are interested in the research, I know CML patients with low phosphorus taking supplements and they are fine. Let us know what you find out.
