It has been interesting to read what happened leading up to a CML diagnosis. I certainly didn't have all the problems you girls had, but if the spleen hadn't enlarged when it did, those symptoms would have probably been next. I do remember getting very sick with a very bad sinus attack & chest congestion that probably expedited the spleen problems right along. I was in that age catagory where one starts relating things like "acky bones & joints", etc., to getting older. I had just turned fifty four months before being dxed. Other than that and the un-explained weight loss, I felt great. I remember that that was the summer that my mother & step-father had visited Kentucky for the summer & I drove down to visit with them for a few days. The day I was packing up my car to come back to Mo., my mom who was trying to help me, stepped into a hole in the yard, fell and broke her ankle. (It had already been broken once before.) I had to rush her to the ER where they put a boot on her and told her not to put any weight on it. Took her back the next day to see the dr. and he wanted to operate and put in some screws. We put her right in the hospital and the surgery was done. I had to rush from the hospital and care for my step-father who was a semi-invalid & back to the hospital to make sure mom was ok. I stayed an extra week to make sure they were all settled before bringing her dog along with me and my dog back to Mo. After a couple of weeks, I drove back as she was going back to the doctor. When I got there, found out she had an infected foot. When we got to the dr. the next morning, she had to go back under the knife so they could clean out all the infection and give her strong anti-biotics until they got the report on the type of infection it was. I made them keep her a few days extra as she was exhausted taking care of herself and my step-dad. By the time they got her on the right anti-biotic and a few days later, I came back home to Mo. I went back around the middle of Sept. and helped her drive themselves back to their home in Florida. I think about all of this now and wonder how in the world I had all the energy to do those things not knowing just how sick I was. I was getting up very early each day and falling in to bed at night after making sure they were taken care of.
