Hello fellow CMLers, I have only posted twice before and have been reading many of your posts. I hope to contribute someday somehow but for now my life has been turned upside down ever since I was dg in April '06. I hope someone will be able to shed some light on my PCR test result I just received in the mail. The letter contains the following; ( I edited the report )
Diagnostic Report Analysis for bcr/abl was performed in duplicate by RT-PCR. Studies were performed two times. Two of the 4 replicates (one fo the duplicates in each study, respectively) were positive for a bcr/abl gene rearrangement. Presence of low but detectable level of the BCR-ABL gene fusion. The breakpoint in bcr was found within the major breakpoint region (found in cml, aml, all). Our PCR method detects 1-10 bad cells in a million normal cells. PCR reference Method: Mauer, J et al., 1990, Molecular diagnosis of the Philadelphia chromosome in chronic myelogenous and acute lymphoblastic leukemia by PCR. Disease Markers 8:211-218. This test was validated and its performance characteristics determined by DIANON Systems, Inc. it has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. END OF REPORT That was the sumation of the report and I am left thinking that there should have been more information. My onc has me on 400mg from the beginning and told me I responded well thru the FISH test. I have not been to see him sense this test was performed on 11/6/06. I am expecting he will raise my dosage judging from the posts I have been reading. Two more things and I will shut up. I was never given the drug Allopurinol that I can remember, is this unusual? Also tonight and for the last two days I have been having pains in my left lower ribs, reminesent of the night I went to the er where I was diagnosed. This is saturday and I don't know if I should be alarmed about the pain enough to go to a ER or just wait and make an appointment with my onc. Thank you all for being here.
