Tony: I was dx'ed Jan. 2004 after suffering with the pain in my left side......was so bad I thought I was dying. (smile) The spleen was almost tripled in size. To make a long story short......I still hurt in that area even to this day, sometimes not so bad & other times almost as bad as then. My onc. says it is residual pain from the spleen. I've noticed that sometimes it's worse after I've eaten certain foods & can not drink any type of carbonated soda at all without having problems in that area. I've had five different onc. since the beginning and I kept telling them about the pain every time I went in for a check up but not one of them seemed very concerned, so I've just learned to live with it.
I was given Hydroxiurea in the beginning for three to four weeks as it took that long to get the genetic test results back showing the Philly Chrom. Don't remember being put on anything else, was just told to drink lots of extra water to keep my system flushed out. I remembered him saying something about the "dead cancer cells" being flushed out of the kidneys or something, I don't know for sure......I remember asking my husband who always went with me in the beginning if that was what he heard too & he said yes.
