Hello to you and Happy New year to everyone! I was Dx on 2-13-02 and have used MedCo even before I was diagnosed. I did not have mush of a problem with them until I started Gleevec (Mostly because of the Cost I think). At one time I had to call the doctor to get an emergency supply to cover for lapse in meds because MedCo "had not processed " my prescription yet. Well after a long battle fought by my local pharmacy to get my emergency supply because Medco was not going to double fill prescription, I sent them a long letter explaining that I needed this medication on time and could not afford to miss even one dose let alone a whole weeks worth. I also asked them a question that I think corrected the problem or at the very least hit them where it hurts (the pocket book). That question was: "Why does it take your pharmacy 2 to 3 weeks to fill an order that my local pharmacy can have filled in 3 days maximum? The only difference being that I would have to pay the monthly co-pay instead of the 3 month rate." I sent this letter to both Medco and my insurance company you contracts with Medco to give my mail order prescriptions. Within 24 hours I had both the Insurance company and Medco calling me to help resolve this issue. They even assigned me a human to call when I placed my next order so that they could track the process. Since then, things have run very smoothly, knock on wood - I just place my next order. In fact, now when I place the order, I will get a phone call within 4 days of my order so that an appointment can be set so that the medicine is delivered directly to me within the next 24 hours. I now have to sign for it but that is OK with me as long as I do not have to miss a dose. So to sum it all up, try going through your insurance or your representative at work and things will get straighten out. The one thing I have realized in the past 4 almost 5 years since I was diagnosed is that even with good insurance, this is an expensive disease and any amount you can save is well worth it.
Good luck and remember to keep your head up and not to sweat the small stuff.
