Hi,

I personally know 4-5 CML Dads on Gleevec who had babies and all are
doing fine. I think if you look back into this group's archives, you
will see some messages on this. Just this month, an article was
published in Hematology on successful pregnancies of partners of men
on Gleevec and I am giving a paraphrase, if you need the full article,
mail to me, privately.

"Hematology, 2007 issue titled 'Successful Pregnancies involving men
with
chronic myeloid leukemia on Imatinib therapy'

There have been some reports on
pregnanciies involving men on Gleevec with a few spontaneous
abortions.
In the 5 patients described here, there were 5 successful pregnancies
after median duration of Gleevec of 18 months before conception and
median age of 45 years. 3 patients were on Gleevec dose of 600mg or
greater at the time of conception. 2 patients had a CCR and 2 patients
had a MCR while the 5 th patient had a partial response. Sperm counts
and androgen levels were not performed on the men since no report of
impotence was made. Partners of the men had uneventful normal
deliveries and the babies were all healthy. Other records of males
on Gleevec fathering babies are as follows. In a 2006 report, there
were 8 men, median age 35 yrs at a median dose of 700mg a day and
exposure to Gleevec median 20 months before conception whose partners
became pregnant. There was one spontaneous abortion and of the 7
successful pregnancies, one baby was born with gut malrotation and
there
had to be surgical intervention. In a 2003 report, 4 successful
pregnancies were reported, two therapeutic abortions, one spontaneous
abortion and one death in utero at 13 weeks in 8 of 13 completed
pregnancies involving male patients on Gleevec. In 7 male patients,
median age 60 years, gynacomastia (breast enlargement) has been
reported
at a dose of 600-800mg a day along with low testesterone levels.
Gynacomastia was thought to be due to Gleevec inhibiting the C-kit and
PDGFr enzymes in testicular".

I wish you a successful pregnancy and I am sure both you and your
husband are so much looking forward to the new arrival!

Best Wishes,
Anjana
