Good explanation. Sounds like your Oncologist is on the ball. Sometimes they are not and that was the reason for the previous posts suggesting finding a new doc.
Sounds like Jim is INTOLERANT to Gleevec. This subject can be perceived differently by Oncologists. Some seem to think the patient needs to get by the side effects. Others will change therapy. Two FDA approved options. Sprycel and Tasigna. Sprycel is a really different drug molecule and Tasigna is a modified form of Gleevec. Even though they both work similar to Gleevec, they very rarely cause the same serious side effect as Gleevec in that person (Cross- intolerant). Now they may cause a new side effect but its hard to predict. I would say both may cause a side effect that can exacerbate Jim's cardiac problem. The FDA has put a warning on Tasigna to be careful for sudden cardiac deaths. Sprycel can cause fluid build-up around the heart or lungs. Consult with your Oncolgist and Cardiologist. These two drugs are more powerful than Gleevec some perhaps they can start Jim out on lower doses and try to move up. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ [CMLHope] A support group of http://cmlhope.com ------------------------------------------------- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CMLHope" group.
