Jeanie: I was reading this and started cracking up over the Castor Oil bit and how you tried not to be sick very often. (smile) Your growing up reminded me so much of mine........I think we may have been related & didn't know it, (smile). My mother was our family doctor's nurse at one of the local hospitals & clinics. Needless to say, if you ran a fever or had some sickness, she automatically took you with her when she went to work. Once you were checked by him and treated...you got to go back & stay in the nurses lounge where they had a sofa, I believe & you could lay & watch the huge console television of which got a whole three channels. (smile) But, when "As The World Turns" came on, you might as well forget watching anything you wanted as the nurses all took their lunch at that time so they could watch their "story". (smile) Besides all this.......we got every vaccination that come out....mom would bring it all home with her and we three kids would line up and get ours in the middle of the kitchen floor. (smile) She even kept a bottle of penicillin & syringes handy because I was always getting red ear and tonsillitis at the same time & that was the doctor's prescription each time, four shots (one daily) of penicillin. I absolutely hated shots & was ecstatic when he finally prescribed the capsules! I fainted almost every time it came to "sticking my finger" for blood or getting shots....even did it when I was a teenager & as a young adult......had a nurse who was trying to put in an IV and saw what I was doing and "screamed" at me to BREATHE (I nearly jumped out of the bed), but realized I was holding my breath every time.
Anyway......just wanted to say how I understand what you are talking about here......(smile). I don't which is worse, not ever going to the doctor or being like us.....almost having a doctor in the family.......I still call her "Dr. Hazel" at times. (smile) And, if they put a new vaccine on the market....you can betcha we got it!!!!!
