Jody, I was dxed at the age of 29, and this past October i made my five years and have been doing great. Started 400mg Gleevec that day back in October 2003 and it has worked great. Minor side effects but compared with the other options it's no big deal.
The first weeks were the hardest, but there are now 2nd and maybe even 3rd generation "Gleevecs" out there so keep you chin up. If not for taking my pill at night i wouldn't know it, and most of my coworkers dont' even know. I workout, travel, etc and have no restrictions. The one thing i did notice was weight gain at first, and now i'm working on that. Best wishes for you and your son.
