Pat,
My husband had somewhat the same situation. His first onc/hem finally admitted he needed to get off Gleevec and had him off for a month and then on Sprycel. He did not want to see him for 3 months. We had other issues with this doc and thankfully were told about a CML specialist in Michigan (we live in IL). We got an appointment with him within 2 weeks. That specialist had him get blood tests every week locally which were sent to him and we received reports about his progress from the CML specialist. We went to see the specialist in 3 months again. So, yes, you should be monitored closely when put on this drug. He is now getting blood tests every 2 weeks. If at all possible, you should find a doctor who handles a good number of CML patients since this type of leukemia is different from the others. Best of everything to you.

Pat,
Once I went off Gleevec and was put on 100 mg of Sprycel,my onc had me coming in for labs every week and once a month to see him. Until I was stable on the Sprycel, it only made sense. At first, I was put on the highest dose which was 140mg of Sprycel, but it caused horrible headaches. Then I was reduced to 100mg and I did fine and went into remission very quickly!!!

If I were you, I would request weekly blood work until my labs looked stable. I can call my onc's office anytime I feel something is wrong and request blood work. I really think you should be monitored until you get a positive response to Sprycel.

Just my two cents!!! Good luck and God Bless,

Lenda

Subject: [CMLHope] Pat's Update

Hello everyone, I hope this finds everyone well. Just wanted to let
you know that my nightmare with Gleevec is over. I have gotten my
prescription for Sprycel, 50 mg once daily. I have concerns because my
onc/hemo doctor doesn't want me to come back until June 3rd. Shouldn't
I be monitored sooner than that. I was expecting blood work rather
regular upon starting a new drug. Please advise me of how your doctor
treated you upon first starting the Srycel. Much thanks.
Love,Peace,Hope & Prayers, Pat
