Holly,

In response to your post, I have found a common theme amongst all of the
clients that I have worked with. Keep It Simple Stupid! As foolish as this
may sound, a main cause for failing CMS projects I have worked on has been
poorly implemented workflow. In several cases, the most simple workflow
ended up being the cornerstone of their CMS.

Obviously, your business requirements will dictate what you need to do, but
just keep in mind that the easier it is to use, the more effective it will
be.

As an example, I created a workflow for a client that has 7 steps in the
process to get their website copy out to production, on the insistance of
the group. I went back to the client two months later and created an
alternative workflow with three steps to get to production. They no longer
use the 7 step process.

In addition to this, I would say that workflow is like all other development
in that the final product will vary from the originally intented target.
With this in mind, figure out the fastest way possible to get _something_
out there for your users to react to.

I'm sure that you are looking for more detailed classification scenarios,
however I thought I would throw in my $.02

Good luck,

Brendan
