Adam,

There are actually two new OS-independent cross-platform editing solutions announced in just the past month.

The first is the Flash-based widget from Ektron you mentioned recently on the list (did you notice Ektron introduced it at $599, then quickly reduced the license for unlimited users to $99?).

The other is the long-awaited fruition of Mozilla XUL tools, a free (no license fees) open-source cross-platform editor.

Mac and Linux users can now do WYSIWYG without Java applets.

The whole problem is reviewed, with demonstrations <http://wysiwyg.skybuilders.com/demos/>and downloads <http://wysiwyg.skybuilders.com/downloads.html>(of the Mozilla editor, along with a full-featured version of the MS DEC editor) at http://wysiwyg.skybuilders.com.

By the way, I liked your Kibo quote. Kibo is a personal friend who created a miniature version of the Merlin game my wife Holly and I invented years ago. Kibo's artwork is on our home page at http://www.skybuilders.com It's a link to a web version of Merlin <http://www.theelectronicwizard.com>, with all the six original games. These days Kibo <http://www.kibology.com> works at TheWorld.com <http://www.theworld.com>, and we are TheSky.com <http://www.thesky.com>.

Parker Brothers sold 5.5 million copies of Merlin, but it's hard to find today, so we put up a free web version at http://www.theelectronicwizard.com

If you have criticisms or comments on the WYSIWYG site <http://wysiwyg.skybuilders.com>, please send them to me and post them to the cms-list. I will incorporate any suggestions in our growing knowledge base at http://wysiwyg.skybuilders.com.

Thanks.

I wonder if anyone can help me - I'm looking for suggestions of a WYSIWYG
editor to add into our CMS.

We use Ektron's eWebEditPro with our CMS as a replacement for text boxes; so
far so good, and it does everything you want on Windows (one cool feature:
you can use your own style sheets). They recently came out with a Flash
version that supposedly works on Macs, but we haven't tried that yet.
