I've just reimplemented a pipe I wrote as rexx.

Maybe its just me but there can be a certain inscrutability about pipelines
that makes it more difficult to understand certain kinds of constructs than
the equivalent rexx code. Pipes can easily become a write-only language so I
like to choose what I'm most likely to still understand next week unless there
are overwhelming reasons of, for example, performance, to suggest I stick to
pipes.

Maintainability is important too.
