Wow. In all the time I spent writing XEDIT mods and XEDIT applications, I never even thought about this. I think I'd wish for it to be *possible* but not *mandatory*. That is, a SETLOCAL command (or something like that) to say "Set this value *for this screen only* would indeed be useful. But in the more general case I'm not sure I'd want a SET command to be local. OTOH, I'm not sure. Ok, so maybe we need SET SET LOCAL and SET SET GLOBAL to satisfy both of us. And if SET SET LOCAL is in effect, and you do some SETs and then SET SET GLOBAL, subsequent SETs are global. But do they override the LOCAL SETs that you already did? Now we need SET SET LOCAL OVERRIDE (or maybe SET SET GLOBAL OVERRIDE)... Not disagreeing, it's a fascinating idea. Just 30 years too late! And perhaps not entirely germane to the Pipelines list, but c'est la guerre.
