What about Plone and Drupal? Do they have modules for a Cart System? I have not used either CMS. Which will be easier to be configured to at least pass W3C markup validation and to have at least A... although AA is my goal.

Zen Cart is far from standards compliant by default, but the developers have done a very good job of separating content and programming logic. Templates are totally isolated and customizable. It just takes a lot of work to correct all the presentation. As far as I know, there are no eCommerce applications that are both open source and standards compliant out of the box.
