Hi Micky,
ExpressionEngine by pMachines is very good to work with. The core app is
free but you will want the commercial version if you want to have a forum
included. I am not sure about any advertising addons.

Mambo Lite is another option, but you cannot get XHTML Strict with it just
yet. Mambo has taken the direction of producing two distros, one is the
standard Mambo app, called Mambo Complete, which is not what you are looking
for. The other, Mambo Lite, is the Mambo core. The components that were
previously part of the standard Mambo are now optional extensions.

Hope this helps.

Lynne

Subject: Flowchart: Magazine-based CMS? Suggestions?

Hi,

I am dinking with cmsmatrix.org site now... but I am hoping one of you
fine folks could give me a head-start. :)

Here is my flowchart (rough and basic, but captures the essence):

<http://www.ambiguism.com/sandbox/flowchart1.jpg>

Some basic requirements:

CSS/XHTML friendly... contemporary/light-weight. (I would like to avoid
Joomla-esque monster apps)
Member registration (with option to make it /paid/ member registration)
Nested categories
PHP/mySQL
Advertising module?
Open Source/Free... or cheap

If I knew how to code in Python better, I would jump on using Django
framework... On the other hand, Textpattern is almost what I am looking
for, except it appears to not handle member registration like I would
need it to...

I dunno, what do ya'll think? :)

I was hoping to nail-down a few cms apps via the matrix and/or
suggestions via this list, and then take them for a test-drive via
opensourcecms.com.

Sorry if I am not clear in my writing -- been up all day/night... kinda
sleep deprived. :(

Many TIA!
Cheers,
M
