Expression Engine
Movable Type
Wordpress.

All have easily accessible template system that isn't entagled with the core
All have the ability to create additional templates easily
All have the ability to add functions without depending on a programmer making a module, plugin bot or whatever.
All use member management and can add custom fields easily.
(x)html is in the templates accessible with the click of a button, and things like menus etc are right there in proper format. EE and MT especially have the ability to publish to the web anything put into a template, including being able to take any webpage on the planet, drop it into an empty template and save to web.

etc
2. Control 3 sites from one interface (if possible)

Expression Engine now does that, manage separate domains from one install, pricing is more than reasonable:
250.00 commercial lic.
200.00 multi site manager (enables up to three separate domains (50.00 ea for additional), sharing (if wanted):
Forums (+100.00)
Photo galleries.
Databse (if wanted, can be separate)
Member database
Templates. and more.

online magazine using a CMS. Which CMS would be ideal for magazine publishing online (with navigation by article subject, issue or writer)?
http://expressionengine.com/showcase/websites/
Has a number of magazine type sites.

And then my requirement for the sites to be web standards compliant (preferably xHTML strict)?
Because of the ability of the above to have easily accessible templates all in one place, compliance is a simple matter of making the template what is wanted according to accepted practices. A template is a webpge complete in itself, no outside unacessible modules (some if wanted, but still accessibe and editable within admin).

There's much more that could be added to this but in the interest of berivity keeping it short, can contact me for more if wanted or specifics.

Subject: [WSG CMS] selecting a cms

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to learn from your experiences. There are so many CMSs around, and I know it depends on what your project's requirements are but wanted to ask how do you select a cms for your project? And what are your top three best/favourite/most used CMSs? and if you feel like it, why?

For example: I have one client that would like to:
1. Have a members login section where they can order products from a catalouge
2. Control 3 sites from one interface (if possible)

or another example: I have a client that would like to create an online magazine using a CMS. Which CMS would be ideal for magazine publishing online (with navigation by article subject, issue or writer)?

And then my requirement for the sites to be web standards compliant (preferably xHTML strict)?

Thanks,

Elle
