You might consider enabling sticky modifiers or something such, so that instead of pressing ALT-x (for example) you would press ALT _and then_ X, which is much closer to the wrist-and-finger-friendly vim behaviour. Also, remap your keyboard so that the control key is to the left of the A, where your unused Caps Lock key lives, instead of in the bottom lefthand corner.
