I would actually go as far as running the preprocessor to resolve the
symbols we want to the one that the C library finds to be appropriate.

It is extremly disturbing that glibc silently maps the open call to
the 64 bits variant (althogh there is a standard compiler flag for
declaring you want it, how do you say you don't want it?).
