I've had good success so far with the Whale Supersub 650, which I've had for
about a year. Same design, with no need for a float switch. The Whale pump
is good in part because it is torpedo-shaped and can fit in small places,
horizontal or vertical. A lot less expensive than Rule, too.

Hi Joel,
we had the floor up (whole different story) removed and cleaned the
strainer and all we could clean. There is a touch sensitive pad on
the front to "test the pump" this no longer seems to work.
The RULE MATE 1100 has what the manufacturer calls "solid state water
sensing technology that eliminates the need for a separate float
switch". A sensor turns the pump on and another sensor shuts the pump
off, in essence there isn't that much too clean.
We need a new bilge pump, this one appears to be shot, hence wondering
if anyone had recommendations/good experiences with other brands.

James,
Have you removed the pump and tried to clean the float switch?
Pumps are generally indestructable. Switches should last multiple
seasons.
I would do a separate switch or a pump with a replaceable switch. My
problem is that the keel bolts make it necessary to have a non-submersible
pump with a pick up.

Le BILGE
Hi al, First time posting here.
We have RULE MATE 1100 installed on our C&C 34 (1982). The automatic
function hasn't worked for months (we check her regularily). It seems
that RULE gets a bad rap in general from the blogs/rantings I have
encountered.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to other brands and what is
the expected life of a bilge pump?
By that I mean are Bilge pumps something that get replaced every year
or bi yearly as a matter of routine?
