All, My crew is an amazing cast of characters, as I'm sure is the same for all of you as well. But, with a minimum of 8 needed to effectively run the Enterprise in a spinnaker race, I'd find myself in the poorhouse very quickly if I supplied all the food and beverages.
Typically, I'll buy munchies, water bottles, and my wife often gets the boxed wine (I don't like having glass on board.) Seeing as the crew likes certain brands of beer over others, they often get their 6-packs, 12-packs or larger on their own dime. I pay for ice every week. As I see it, I'm also providing the boat, club fees and keeping up with maintenance costs. For day races, everyone brings their own lunch. I'll buy donuts and a Box of Joe for the morning. After racing, everyone covers their own dinners. I've made the Enterprise available for overnights in case someone drinks too much, but nobody has ever taken me up on it. If, at the end of the season, the Enterprise is to receive an award, I'll cover the awards dinner costs for them. All the best, Edd Edd M. As skipper, I bring the lunch, snacks & beer and buy the burgers. I also buy them each a ticket for the awards dinner if they want to attend. Normally only two or three attend. I also encourage them to take the podium if, and when, we place. If there is a party at the club, they are welcome to crash on the boat no questions asked. I have a great crew and am grateful for their participation. All but one was on my old boat, an SJ24. At this stage, most of the yelling is left to (and on some occasions for) the other boats.
