Actually, I don't think this would be too hard to do, Its just a cotter pin
and push the shaft that holds the blades out...couple of dives with a snorkel
could do it...maybe...

Danny,

Lets hope it's not the prop. You've got a 50/50 chance it's installed
correctly.

I'd continue the engine shaft alignment process and see if the vibration
diminishes or goes away. However, if the vibration continues, it could well be
the prop.

Most folding props are balanced by the manufacturer. When balanced, the
manufacturer should stamp a small mark on one blade and on one side of the hub.
To maintain the balance, the blades should be installed in the hub the same
way as when balanced, i.e. the marks should line up. If the blades are
swapped, imbalance, and thus vibration, may result.

You may be able to check the marks underwater with a strong dive light. If
not, you can remove the prop underwater, check the blade marks, mark the hub
and blade with tape for visibility and re-install properly.

I do have a folding prop and I do not recall any alignment marks...

Danny,

Do you have a folding prop? If so, were there alignment marks on one blade and
the hub? Were they matched?

Subject: Stus-List A4 Engine alignment

Hello all,

Well i got out for a sea trial on Sunday. The engine runs nicely but, it
vibrated like crazy underway. It appears I did not align the engine. I've
gotten it better aligned now but, are there any tips or techniques to adjusting
this thing to get dead nuts aligned?

It seems a very tedious endeavor... When I put a dial indicator on the shaft,
just aft of the coupler, I can't seem to get it better than .005 of an inch.
It started out at about .015 when i first put it on and i thought that the .005
may have been acceptable but, it still vibrated.

I've asked the yard mechanic to have a look and align it for me. However, if
he doesn't get to it this week I'd like to get it done myself before the
weekend so that I can FINALLY go sailing!

Thanks,
Danny
