To make sure I give the correct information, I presume you have an older C&C
with Atkins and Hoyle hatches, and will need ½” diameter seal material, and
that you need to replace the seal between the hatch and the frame.

As someone else already pointed out, neoprene O-ring material will not
compress to form a good seal even if you could find sufficient length of ½”
diameter material.

For future reference by the list, what you want is called “backer bead” or
“glazing bead” and among other things it is used to fill the void between
metal door frames and large window frames and the openings into which they
are mounted. Pretty commonly it is used for the display windows you’d find
in a storefront. It is a dense black neoprene foam, and I think it is
available in different diameters.

You can find it at most any glass shop that does commercial windows. I
bought the stuff I used to rebuild my hatches at the local Lowes store. I
think a 50 ft roll was about $8, but it has been a couple of years since I
bought it, and I am getting older, so I may be wrong about the price.

You use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive part number 08011 to attach the bead to the
window. Make sure that you use a razor blade to cut the ends of the bead
square so the ends seal properly. Also cut the length of bead an onch or two
longer than the exact length you need for going around the hatch. When you
install the bead make sure you do not stretch it as you put it into the
groove in the heatch because that could cause the joint to open up – better
to cut the length a bit long and compress the foam along its length as you
install it. That will help ensure a good seal.

All that said, I think I have about 25 or 30 feet of the stuff left over
from rebidding my A&H hatches. Another Item for which I have a lifetime
supply. Contact me off list and let me know your address and what size
hatch(s) you need seal material for, and I will send you a length of the
material.

And if anyone needs rubber for a mast boot or glazing spline and seal
material for the aluminum framed windows, contact me as well.
