Brent In Saltwater in our area we do not use VC 17 but rather VC Offshore.
I have used both Micron CSC and VC Offshore on each of the boats we have had the past 10 years at least one season. VC Offshore is marginally faster than the Micron immediately after launching the boat and a bit faster after hauling the boat for a thorough scrub and burnish. Within a day there is little or now difference and after a week the Micron is faster. After a typical non haulout brinish scrub I think they are just about the same. Also - since Micorn can be wet sanded if you apply a thick enough coat(s) you can burnish it a bit initially as well.... I have raced with both Micron CSC and VC Offshore and the paint has never made a diofference in the results. The C&C115 we race on uses Micron CSC exclusively and has won some very challenging races against other C&C115s and the fastest boats in our area with the best sailors in our area. Would have done the same with VC Offshore. Sorry for the long diatribe. I have switched to Micron now exclusively because I need only a qt a year and I cannot buy VC Offshore in Qt sizes in Canada and leftover paint in a gallon size does not keep well once the air gets at it. Further I find Micorn much easier to maintain during the season. I believe VC Offshore vs Micron CSC in salt water is very similar to VC17 vs Micron in fresh water Oh - and when I brought our boat to Halifax for Fall sailing this year the bottom was immaculate at haulout using Micron CSC vs much less than immaculate using VC Offshore for same 5 week period last year. We will be using Micron again next year Mike -----Original Message----- From: CnC-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Brent Driedger Sent: Friday, December 07, 2012 2:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Stus-List Micron 66 How would this compare to VC 17 which in my fresh water lake this year required considerable effort from the pressure washer to de slime the boat. Bad hull maintenance year for a racer I know. The main event photos has my boat as the only one green below the waterline!
