Hello Tom
I put an Espar hydronic system in Secret Plans two years ago, the
installation is documented in Good Old Boat magazine, Oct 2012. Espar D5
(similar specs to the Webasto), which feeds into two Heatercraft
radiators. I also use it to heat domestic hot water, since my engine is
raw water cooled.
Biggest thing to sort out is layout - where to put the heater, the
expansion tank, how to run the hose and wiring for the radiators.
Installation was a fair bit of labor, but none of it difficult. Except
the contortions required to run the exhaust out the back, wriggling back
there is always a good time!
I'm very happy with the system. The only change I may make to it will
be to add a Y valve to allow me to just run it through the water tank
for those days when I want hot water but not cabin heat. I'll have to
drain the system to do that though, which has been pushing this down the
to-do list. When it is stinking hot out and we have run the system I
don't notice any appreciable heat increase in the cabin (with the
radiator fans off), so it's not a priority. But if I was installing it
again I'd put in a Y.
Any specific questions?

I am looking to add heat to Alera. I have decided that a hydronic

Has anyone on the list had one of these units or installed a
hydronic system (especially in a 37+!).
Suggestions or general thoughts on this, of course, welcome.
