Steve,
The draw is minimal, and many people do keep it hooked up.
Personally I ditched my boat's marine stereo and purchased a Bose
Bluetooth portable speaker set to connect to my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro.
That way I can listen to my music or I-Heart-Radio, or even watch movies with
great sound anywhere on the boat.
