Don’t forget to check the fuel tank for leaks. I had a metal fuel tank dump its contents in the bilge. No fun at all. For a long time, it was only a minor drip like yours, until the corrosion gave way.
The apparent cause was the tank had been positioned against a stainless steel screw. The p.o. tended to ignore the stuffing box, so saltwater sprayed all over, including the spot where the two dissimilar metals met. (The tank was aluminum, if I remember correctly.) There aren’t really that many, just follow it from the tank, squeeze them around the terminals, and check later. When I run my bilge pump, I do see some slight rainbow coloring in the water. Before I go checking everything out this weekend and disconnect any hose clamps, is there anything that I should be careful about (letting air into the fuel lines, etc.)? Would appreciate any advice from anyone -- especially from those who have experienced and fixed a similar problem. All the best, Edd Edd M.
