Edd, That "push button" cable looks like one we have at work where you can turn the black knob and it will act as a throttle by slowly pulling or releasing (sorta pushing) the cable. In an emergency you can release everything you "pulled out" by pushing the red button. The knob would have no useful function for you and the button is completely opposite of the function you need.
I replaced my cable last year. I got the official Yanmar part from Torrsen marine. It was frustrating though because yanmar only made certain length cables. I think the available lengths went from 18' straight to 24' with nothing in between. I now have a substantial loop of cable in my transom. I'm thinking about a electric solenoid retrofit. For about $70, EBay has something made by yanmar I think will work.
