Thanks. Looks like any attempts to save some real bucks and go for a
different type of cable were useless. Or, as they say, resistance is futile.
So I just spent $90 (including shipping -- not too bad) for a Teleflex
25 foot cable with both a knob and a T-handle.
Next comes the fun job of detaching the old one and snaking the new one
down, and then connecting it up to the engine.
Listen for a lot of cursing from Western Long Island Sound this weekend
