Can you get the hull number of the boat and/or the year it was built? The B40
honcho down here will ask the fleet...

newer sails needed

Here is what I have been told by the skipper of the boat.

"Our sail plan is for a Hinckley Bermuda 40 Mark II tall rig. The Main: foot
16'9", Luff 38'6", Leech 42'0".
  The #1 Genoa: Foot 27'8", Luff 44'0", Leech 44'0". We've been using a
lighter weight Reach Drifter which has the about the same dimensions as the #1
Genoa: Reacher Drifter: Foot 29'3", 43'0", Leech 40'8". The Mizzen is newer
so that is OK. All our jibs are hanked on since we don't have rolling furling
gear."

I am thinking that hanked on jib is going to be an issue. I presume they can
get a sailmaker to convert a sail from luff tape to hanks - but at what cost?

Anyway. Any leads, ideas on how to help these folks upgrade their sails would
be greatly appreciated

    Jonathan;

You need to post the dimensions of the boat so we have an idea of what
sizes are appropriate.

Pyacht lists the following dimensions for I,J,P,E,PY, and EY, but the boat
is question might be different:

          HINCKLEY
         40
         BERMUDA 40-1
         42.50
         15.66
         36.58
         17.17
         17.25
         8.58

          HINCKLEY
         40
         BERMUDA 40-2
         44.45
         15.58
         38.50
         16.08
         20.25
         8.50

          HINCKLEY
         40
         BERMUDA 40-3
         49.00
         17.40
         42.40
         12.00
         22.58
         8.20

I have an older #3/#4 (it has a reef in it) that might do as a working jib
if the boat is a 40-3.

We have finally persuaded the Sea Scouts in Southport to come out and race
in the white sail division. They are handicapped in more ways than one, but I
am hoping I can enlist the help of this incredible list to see if we an locate
a new set of sails for them – this should not be difficult – their current set
is 45 years old. They do not have the funds to buy used from Bacon or similar,
so we are hoping to find some folks who are willing to donate their old sails
to a good cause!

    Any leads gratefully received
