Hi Patrick,
Generally speaking Sister's Island has the highest winds in the
straight... excepting local disturbances as a "weather event" passes
through. This is especially true in a SE. Bear in mind that
Environment Canada forecast is for the highest wind in the forecast
area. So the 15 -25 knot forecast can be a nice 12 -15 knot breeze
from Silva Bay to English Bay.
For westerlies Ballenas & Entrance are often the same as Sister's
except in hot weather, then either can be much higher in the
afternoon especially if it's blistering hot in the Okanagan!
Cheers, Russ

Hi Russ and others, many thanks for feedback, very useful. Russ you
say "In either case, keep in mind the breeze will lighten up on the
other side. So a forecast of winds 15-25 knots will typically have
25 knots at Sister's Island and maybe Bellenas and Entrance Islands
and 12 - 15 at most on the Vancouver side o' the strait." Does this
hold true for all wind directions? Regards, Patrick

We really want to take a moment here to welcome Jim and Anne back to
"our world". They've been gone for months, circumnavigating
Vancouver Island, another world.
By now, Jim is our resident fog expert, and it's a delight to see
him back on the list.
Thanks, Lee
We have usually crossed in September, in everything from my Shark 24
to the 35, and it has never been really awful, and it has been
mostly nice. I second the suggestion to go via Porlier Pass,
overnight in Clam Bay and head out in the morning. Porlier is an
easy ride and doesn't get the same chop as Silva Bay, plus you don't
have to dodge Thrasher Rock and a bunch of reefs.
We have never had fog crossing Georgia Strait, but this seems a very
foggy year so you never know.
