Kinda what I meant. I usually pull the mix elbow so I can make sure it's clean. If you can remove the hose and its small elbow, clean it and clean its entrance into the mix elbow, that works.
The couple of Yanmars I work on for this issue have easily accessed mix elbows. In fact, I think it's easier than trying to rod out the small water inlet elbow with the mix elbow on the engine.
