Bill — all the MarineBeam gear I’ve seen is top-notch; all their LED fixtures
and lamp replacements have high-end constant-current drivers, which means
they’ll take anywhere from 10-30VDC without any change in brightness (which
protects them from damage if, say, your alternator regulator fails and suddenly
you’re putting out 15+VDC…); and they’re insensitive to polarity, so you can’t
blow them up by accidentally wiring them positive to negative. And their warm
white LEDs look really good, as opposed to the cheap knock-offs.

For me, it’s worth it to have great visibility of all my nav lights under any
conditions; and to not have to replace any bulbs. Both of the fixtures I
purchased are 3NM USCG-approved; many of the lesser fixtures out there are only
2NM.
