The best indicator of health IMO is the Amp-Hour capacity compared to the
manufacturers rating and historical measurement.  Typically you would
measure them at a C/20 rate from 100% 50%  so a 100AH battery would test at
5 amps for 10 hours.

The problem with typical resistance loads is that as the voltage drops so
does the current.  The load has to be regulated.  It would also be nice if
the load didn't over discharge your battery.

I have a Computer Battery Analyzer (CBA) from West Mountain Radio that will
perform this test nicely.  Check them out.
