When the yard pulled my prop 5 years ago they had a tool which required
being hit with a sledge hammer. It made me uncomfortable because the tool
was not distributing the force evenly around the prop. The tool required
considerable banging and I voiced my concerns. They told me not to worry
and then bang! I thought something had broken and I could just imagine the
repair bill for my 16" 3 blade Max-Prop. Nope, the hub just came loose and
slammed against the prop nut which had been loosened but not removed. All
was well. I guess that's why they are the professionals. Here's a picture
of the closest thing I could find but it doesn't seem to be designed to be
hit. Maybe the yard guy wasn't using it right.

Since then I bought a used puller from a discount consignment shop for $10.
I've never had reason to used it but probably will next season. It is a 3
point puller with a center screw and no need to bang. I don't know if it
will work or not.
