Edd, I've always found Eldridge Tide and Pilot Book to be the best source of current speeds at various critical locations ranging from Hell's Gate up to Boston. Very specific maps showing both current speed and direction at times before and after Ebb and Floods begin.
We transit Woods Hole frequently and without our Eldridge Guide, we may get a fair tide through Woods Hole if we only consulted a tide table, but would be bucking current in Vineyard Sound for roughly 2 hours if we transit at slack tide. Eldridge Guide shows how long the current is fair on either side of the Hole. Same for Plum Gut and The Race. Specifically, I want to know the direction and speed at high tide, 1 hour after high tide, 2 hours after high tide and so on. Similar to something like these for NYC and Hells Gate: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15162917/ENTERPRISE/NYC-Currents-Battery -High.jpg / https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15162917/ENTERPRISE/NYC-Currents-Battery -Low.jpg All the best, Edd Edd M.
