I repaired a water tank by hot air plastic welding. Plastic welding is pretty easy to learn, just get a pack of LDPE welding rods. I initially tried G/flex with alcohol cleaning prep and flame treating the plastic, but it failed. I had a really long crack (~1/3 tank length) along the corner edge. After welding the crack, I welded on a stainless steel mesh over the region for structural support. It may not have looked pretty but it has remained leak-free going on 4 years.
I wrote about the repair on my blog: http://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/search/label/WaterTankRepair - Paul E. 1981 C&C 38 Landfall S/V Johanna Rose Fort Walton Beach, FL http://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/ > On Jun 5, 2018, at 10:43 PM, [email protected] wrote: > > Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2018 22:01:26 -0400 > From: bwhitmore <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>> > To: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Subject: Re: Stus-List water tank replacement suggestions > Message-ID: > <[email protected] > <mailto:[email protected]>> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" > > It's also pretty easy to weld yourself.?
