I know some folks think the Algae-X fuel conditioners may be a hoax. To tell you the truth, I don't really know myself.
I do have one on Touche'. It was installed in 2003 as part of the diesel conversion. The Algae-X and fuel tank have been in service for 16 years. I removed the fuel tank couple weeks ago for access to install a rudder stop bulkhead. I emptied the tank. Here's a picture of the "stuff" from the tank. Looks to be 1-2 tablespoons. No biocides, etc. I can't tell you if the Algae-X helps clean the fuel or the turnover. I probably turn over the fuel 4 times a year. I also have a vacuum gauge on my Racor.
