If magnets really did kill algae, all that would happen is the filers
would be clogged with dead algae instead of live algae. Putting magnets
in the TANK would be the thing if this really worked.
BTW - microbes grow at the fuel-water interface. Keeping water out is
99% of the battle.

I do have one on Touche'. It was installed in 2003 as part of the
diesel conversion. The Algae-X and fuel tank have been in service
for 16 years. I removed the fuel tank couple weeks ago for access
to install a rudder stop bulkhead. I emptied the tank. Here's a
picture of the "stuff" from the tank. Looks to be 1-2 tablespoons.

I have never added any fuel conditioners except for a lubricity
additive. No biocides, etc.
I can't tell you if the Algae-X helps clean the fuel or the
turnover. I probably turn over the fuel 4 times a year.
I also have a vacuum gauge on my Racor. I might change the 30
micron element every 3 years.
