Sorry .. the Beckson holder is one that you attach with screws rather than
suction cup. I did not see the description when I posted the earlier link.
However when you look at the photos you can see the screw mounting holes.

As others said. Not frivolous at all. Alternative is having boat manned by a
bunch of one armed people. As the saying goes … one hand for the boat and one
for yourself (safety) … pretty difficult when one is occupied by a can of soda
or other …. Actually had a nephew sail with us one time who spent the entire
time clutching a large energy drink.

Depending on if you are wheel or tiller and where traveller is located these
are a useful option
https://ca.binnacle.com/p10332/Beckson-Soft-Mate-Can-and-Air-Horn-Holder-Suction-Cup/product_info.html
On our Niagara 26 and J27 with mid cockpit mounted travellers had below the
traveller either side. On our Frers 33 we actually have one mounted on the
side of the mast so that anyone doing mast work can have a place to put a
beverage. These are cheap, durable and easily replaced.

With a binnacle there are a number of other options. The Snap-it others
described are a bit pricey but durable and out of the way. We have a double on
either side of the Binnacle on Persistence
https://ca.binnacle.com/m411/Snapit!-Marine-Products/p6013/Snapit-Convertible-Single-or-Double-Drink-Holder-for-1-in.-Rail/product_info.html

Another Binnacle option which is popular and works well is the teak sort
https://ca.binnacle.com/p3335/Teak-Four-Insulated-Drink-Binocular-Rack-62634/product_info.html

This one is even better and what we have on Persistence. It is combined with a
cockpit table that hangs out of the way against front of Binnacle when not in
use. We love it.

The hanging on the lifeline styles do have some complications. They can get
entangles with lines and can in fact fall off … It takes a pretty good amount
of effort to make them fall off but it has been done.

I would also watch out for anthing that degrades with UV exposure and has
pieces snap off. I have seen a lot of boats with partial plastic drink holders
attached to bulkheads.

This may seem frivolous but I recognized a serious need for cockpit cup holders
during a recent outing on Shangri-La.

I am looking for recommendations for types of and recommended locations for
cockpit cup holders on a C&C 30 MK1 (1974).

There are lots of possibilities. I’m looking for something that is
aesthetically pleasing and functional and will not interfere with activity in
the cockpit.
Horizontal and vertical examples include https://amzn.to/2nJuNqe and

What has worked well for you? Thanks for sharing any experiences and ideas if
you have a moment.

…. Cheers!

Tom
