Hi Matthew,

If you have any diesel smell in the cabin you should probably take a look
at your exhaust system.

I used to have an ever slight smell in mine then it got to the point where
one day, my wife felt sick from being in the cabin while we were motoring
for a while.

The problem was a plugged-up / rusted exhaust elbow. There's no starboard
access to my engine and the port side of the elbow looked fine.
Unbeknownst to us, we had an "invisible" hairline crack / exhaust leak on
the the starboard side.

After removing the elbow off the engine to get a good look at it we took
it out on the dock in the light of day. It took about 1 minute of
examining the rust stain on the starboard side of the elbow to see the
hairline crack: Yes indeed! Very small but scary raw exhaust leak in the
engine compartment, Carbon Monoxide poisoning danger....

I replaced the riser / elbow / hoses. Never had a smell since.

< I run the blower on my boat (diesel engine) when I?m running the engine
for an extended period of time as it cuts down on the diesel smell in the
compartment (and, in turn, the rest of the boat).>
