I believe that’s still correct.  At least I hope so.

In the U.S, at least, boats can have a y valve that discharges overboard in the 
Great Lakes, but the must be shut off and locked off either using a lock or zip 
tie.  I know this because in Chicago we used to have to have annual inspections 
(which in our old 27MKIII showed we had no Y valve at all).

 

Now I will say, that is unless something has changed in the last few years...

Edd...I had to disconnect and take the Y-valve out.  As I understand it, you 
cannot have overboard discharge in the great lakes.  Perhaps the PO of my boat 
did some earlier surgery...
