Automotive paint formulas have changed from oil based to water based over the last few years. While paint companies offer both, most body shops and all the car companies have switched to water based paint because it is easier on the environment. I don't know how that impacts longevity in a marine environment, but if you are looking at other boats be sure you are comparing similar auto paints.
