Hi Folks,

Loaded up the dog and headed out to Tamarack Ranch and Jumbo Res. this morning.
It was a slow start because of very dense fog. There were several singing
Cardinals in the Tamarack East area. Jumbo had a large assortment of waterfowl
most of which have been reported earlier. About 10:30 a huge flight of
White-fronted Geese came in. I estimated about 1000, easily thew most I have
ever seen in CO. A few minutes later in came about 20,000 white geese to join
the 10,000 already on the lake. It looked like about 5% to 10% were Ross's
Geese. There were several boats on the lake and one put up the entire flock and
they milled around over the water for a few minutes before settling down. It
was an incredible sight! I did not see any of the previously mentioned unusual
gulls or the Barrow's Goldeneye. They easily could have been there, however. If
Jumbo isn't the best waterfowl lake in the state it has to be one of the top
two. There were at least 15,000 other ducks as well. Other species of interest
include 12 White Pelicans, a large Madoff of cormorants, many Killdeer, 30
American Pipits, a Say's Phoebe, one Chestnut-collared Longspur and both
species of grackles. As for Winter species there were still several juncos,
Tree Sparrows and a lone Rough-legged Hawk.
