Hello, Birders.

Just a few notes of interest, perhaps, to Boulderites.

Sat., July 18th, with Kei, Hannah, and Andrew. Along the Fowler Trail, 1
Lewis's Woodpecker. This bird was in a tall ponderosa pine just past the 2nd
switchback. (This is the switchback that goes through the mini-canyon.) I can't
guarantee that the bird is still there, as I accidentally through a rock at it
and flushed it, and it flew away in a huff. Honest, it was a total accident.
Ask offline for details. Or ask Hannah. She was complicit.

Sun., July 19th, also with Kei, Hannah, and Andrew. Up at Allenspark, 3 or 4
male Rufous Hummingbirds, but no Calliopes, yet, that I was able to lay eyes
on. Any day now, I suspect... There were 4 ridiculously close-up Type 2 Red
Crossbills at the feeders: 1 adult male, 1 adult female, 2 juveniles.
Definitely close enough for detailed study of bill structure; and they were
fairly vocal, too. Plus, the usual stuff: Band-tailed Pigeon, Cassin's Finch, a
pile of Pygmy Nuthatches, etc.
