Hi Everyone--

Saturday evening 7/18 seemed to be a good time to look at the Reddish Egret.
It was at the south end of De Weese Reservoir looking regal and doing a bit
of feeding, and the place wasn't at all crowded (go in from Custer county
roads 215/220 west of Westcliffe to avoid the mob on the east side). From
the lack of wild feathers on the neck, I take it this egret is an immature.
There was a nice group of shorebirds at the mouth of the creek, including a
Spotted Sandpiper, 4 Baird's Sandpipers, and a Semipalmated Sandpiper. A
beaver was also swimming around the creek mouth.

>From here, I drove to Gunnison. US 50 was a mess at MP 204 (a truck had
stripped off 50 yards of guardrail). I spent the night at the south end of
Gunnison county road 38. Sunday morning, I saw a family group of mom
Gunnison Sage-Grouse and 4 little ones. A lone female was in the yard of the
southernmost house on the paved road. I went home by way of Grand Mesa. Mom
Dusky Grouse and one little one were on CO-92 MP 47 south of Crawford. On
Grand Mesa, the wildflowers were a hit (head toward Land's End and you'll
see), but I also saw a fledgling Hammond's Flycatcher at the Crags
trailhead.

Traffic on I-70 was insane. It was pouring rain at Loveland Pass, so I
didn't stop to look for ptarmigan.
